A Drawers Chest, also referred to as a “dresser” or “bureau”, is a rectangular cabinet normally made of wood and having drawers placed horizontally one on top of the other. It was mainly designed to store smaller item of clothing, undergarments, socks, lingerie and assorted stuff like cosmetics etc. Primarily, all clothing which could not be hung or kept in the Armoire, went into the Drawers Chest.

The Drawers Chest was essentially designed as part of a bedroom due to the items it stored. It could be comprising of two drawers and be waist high or have additional drawers making it of shoulder height. The wood used is nicely polished since this item has to blend with the overall decor of the bedroom and reflect the same delicate elegance as the other items. The drawers can be pulled out and pushed back. For handles, decorative brass fittings can be fixed or normal wooden handles may be used. You could also use brass handles improve the elegance and provide a rich look.
Though this was designed for the bedroom and stored smaller items as mentioned, it can also be used for storing other articles which can fit into it and placed in other rooms as well. Often a mirror is fixed on top, which is a flat surface. This functions as a dresser in itself.
The Drawers Chest is usually placed against a wall though may not be fixed to it. Its top can also be used for placing decorative items, photo frames of loved ones, a lamp or artifact. It thus serves as a multifunctional item of furniture, not only as a storage device, but also as an elegant part of the bedroom decor.
